Counting the Omer

Now is the time, in the Jewish calendar, when we count the Omer. During 49 days, from the second day of Pessah until the holiday of Shavuot, we will say a blessing and count the passage of another day.  In order to enhance my prayers during this period, I wrote a Kavannah, an aid for spiritual focus, to use in the morning:

Every day
I wake up and feel the reassurance
of that dark blue sky slowly becoming lighter
with shades of pink and blue
until it turns into a brilliant turquoise
heralding the day, full of possibilities
and opportunities for wonder.
I recall the image of the prophet Isaiah
and together with all angels, earthly and celestial, proclaim:
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Eternal of Multitudes.
The whole world is filled with God’s Glory.”
Creating the space for moments of joy, I am
inspired to bring my own light
as inspiration to others
to multiply love and peace
onto the world.
I honor time by counting the Omer in the evening,
re-thinking my days,
counting time and making time count.

I wish everyone a productive counting. I hope that counting the Omer for you is a source of joy and a tool to deepen your spiritual connection. I trust that as we intensify and share our inner light we will create more opportunities for goodness, compassion, and harmony to infuse our daily lives.
