The Yamim Norayim, The Days of Awe, 5785

Dear Friends,

We are looking forward to ushering the Jewish New Year together with you! We will gather as a community, with services being both in-person and online.

This year, the month of September will be dedicated to our spiritual preparation for the Yamim Norayim.

  • September 3: We will not have our a short story discussion as there will be a National Vigil for the Hostages.
  • September 10: Movie Discussion: The Shawshank Redemption, by Frank Darabont
  • September 17: Kabbalah: The Overwhelming Power of G’vurah (Judgment, Strength, and Severity)
  • September 24: Mussar: Mindfulness (M’tinut)

The suggested contribution for the spiritual preparation during the Hebrew month of Elul is $ 54.00.

This is a time for reflection, for spiritual renewal, for hope, for compassion and for kindness (for oneself and for others). Our goal is to bring to you, personally, and to our community opportunities to grow in all different ways. We will offer many services, and you can participate in them or you can lead them, you can chant Torah and Haftarah, you can blow the shofar, you can do a reading, or you can share your thoughts about prayers with the whole community. Just let Rabbi Bass know what you would like to do by sending her an email at info@JILLI.org.

If you wish to join our services, register by sending an email with your name and others attending with you, and your mailing address to info@JILLI.org. After registering, we will send you the location address to attend services in-person and a Zoom link to attend online.

There is no charge to attend our services, however, a donation to JILLI to the best of your ability is greatly appreciated. Online donations can be made using echeck, credit or debit cards. You may also donate using Zelle to rabbi.lia.bass@jilli.org, or by mailing a check. Please consider a donation in multiples of 18, the numerical equivalent of the Hebrew word for life, such as $90, $180, $360, $1,800.

Please bring your own tallit and kippah, and mahzor, if you have it. We will be using the Mahzor Lev Shalem.
